bloom
Extra copies of the surviving frame at slightly different sizes, which reads as light bleed.
A real blur means sampling every pixel's neighbours. Drawing the same frame two or three times, each a little larger and fainter, costs three blits instead and looks close enough once it is moving. Zero is off.
